DAY 13 – SUSTAINING SPIRITUAL GROWTH (THE ESSENCE OF BIBLE STUDY)
For the last days together, we have discussed largely on the first pillar that pushes spiritual growth which is Daily intimacy with the Holy Spirit; but today we discover the second pillar without which spiritual growth is impossible: THE WORD OF GOD.
Today we are not simply talking about growing spiritually, rather sustained spiritual growth. How do you grow not only in one good season but keeping spiritually alive through the changing seasons of life?
The answer is simple: Daily intimacy with the Holy Spirit and daily fellowship with the Word of God. The Word of God is extremely powerful. In fact, many of the spiritual disciplines we admire are actually sustained by these two foundations.
For example, Prayer is often provoked by scripture and the awareness of the Presence of the Holy Spirit. Many people do not struggle to pray because they are lazy; they’re just not feeding on scripture and not conscious of the Holy Spirit’s Presence. When these two foundations become weak, eventually everything else starts becoming difficult. That is why building these two areas of life creates stability and sustained growth.
The Word was given with growth in mind that’s why 1 Peter 2:2 says: “desire the pure milk of the Word, so that you may grow through it.” Then 2 Timothy 3:16–17 tells us: “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped”
So, Bible Study is equally as important as fellowship with the Holy Spirit, however, Bible study sometimes can be challenging to keep in consistency, other times we want to study but can’t understand, and that’s why tomorrow I will be sharing my Bible Study practices that can help you effectively study the Bible with understanding and ease.
