DAY 4 – MEET THE HOLY SPIRIT. WHO IS HE?
You may have heard about the Holy Spirit, but have you really met Him? Have you had an encounter with Him that magnifies and clarifies the way you perceive Him? Many people are not growing spiritually because the dimension from which they know the Holy Spirit is very limiting of His primary function of transforming us into Jesus’ Image as 2 Corinthians 3:18 told us. If you want to become like Jesus, invest time to truly know the person Jesus left you with.
Let’s discover Him in these 2 main dimensions:
1. The Holy Spirit is GOD.
The Holy Spirit is not an inferior of God; He is not another Angel, or a sort of divine creature: HE IS GOD. Jesus said in John 14:23 “….If a man loves me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and WE will come to him, and make OUR home with him.”
Have you observed the plural WE? Who is Jesus promising to come with to abide in anyone that the Father loves? Remember Jesus ascended to heaven and never came back on the earth, yet still promised He would come back and stay in us. He was here talking about the Holy Spirit. So if Jesus is God, it means the Holy Spirit is GOD.
Through the Holy Spirit, the Father and the Son abide in you. So, you carry God away from the Prayer Mountain, church premises, prayer room, and therefore whatever you can do with Him in the prayer room, you can also do anywhere else. The right engagement of that awareness will propel you to spiritual growth.
2. The Holy Spirit is a PERSON.
You can’t doubt that Jesus is a Person because there is evidence He has ever been on earth in the flesh. So even though the Bible calls Him the Lion of Judah, mentally you don’t paint an image of a lion, but of a Person. However, because the Holy Spirit has not physically appeared on the earth, it takes some work to believe He is a Person. Whenever He is mentioned, many mentally draw the image of a dove, wind, fire, cloud, or a weird clove of divided tongue. But He is really a Person and here’s the proof in scripture:
i. He has a Mind: Meaning He does everything with intelligence and He is a thinker.
ii. He has emotions: Imagine His capacity to feel jealous as James 4:5 says; He can be saddened as Ephesians 4:30 says.
iii. He has His own will according to 1Corinthians 12:11. Decision making ability is something on a person can have.
Can a cloud think, does a dove have emotion with people, does wind think, does fire make decisions? Therefore, we need to learn that those symbols are only powerful pictures of His role and character. If you don’t understand that, the brain will resist fellowship with Him.
When you carry those 2 mindsets about the Holy Spirit, your prayer time is going to be extended beyond the prayer room, there is going to be a conscious that trains you to always invite and seek the help of the One that was sent to transform you into the image of Jesus.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, I thank You for the privilege You availed for me to be intimate with You through the Holy Spirit. I acknowledge that You continually walk with me beyond my devotional time and this is my hope to grow spiritually. Holy Spirit, I thank You for always being with me, even when I don’t give You attention. But from today, I pledge to try and remember You not just in the prayer room but in daily life. I trust You with my life, I’m sure I’m headed to great heights with You, In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen!
